Modernising our fleet is not just about putting new modern locomotives into service, we are also focusing on our extensive fleet of freight wagons. By the end of the year, we will take 60 new, modern wagons into service, which are designed for transporting agricultural products. The first of these are going into service these days.
At a time of increased demands on the transport of agricultural commodities not only from the fertile southern parts of Europe, but also from Ukraine, it is important to be prepared for these challenges. That is why we have decided to expand our fleet with Tagnpps wagons of Slovak production. Their manufacturer is Tatravagónka Poprad, a company belonging to the BUDAMAR GROUP. These are covered hopper wagons of special construction developed for the transport of agro-products, which are protected from weather influences. The maximum loading weight of such a wagon is up to 70 tons of goods.
We took over the first set of 30 wagons for long-term use from Cargo Wagon at the end of September, and the second set will be available at the end of 2024. The wagons have the attractive orange paintwork that characterises our company.
An interesting feature of these wagons is that, in addition to their quiet and environmentally friendly operation thanks to composite brake pads, they are also equipped with a monitoring device for continuous tracking of their position, which will allow the operating staff, but especially our customers, to always have accurate information about where their goods are currently located.
By investing in new and modern rolling stock, we are ready to confirm and consolidate our position as the leader in rail transport in Central Europe.
